City of Brooklyn
The City of Brooklyn oversees the many structures owned by the City. Faced with an aging infrastructure, the City began the process of making facility upgrades and used HB 300 to help finance them. The City utilized a Request for Proposal to obtain information on companies and solutions for the buildings they had targeted for renovations.
The City’s ice plant, needed to operate an ice rink at the Recreation Center, was failing and in need of frequent repair. It was replaced with a brand new high efficiency chiller equipment and new rink distribution piping.
The Recreation Center also received a new hot water boiler to replace the older inefficient boiler. Since installed, the new boiler offers 83% efficiency.
To reduce costly air infiltration, a window wall was repaired allowing for easier door operation, and greatly increasing the insulating value of the wall.
In all four buildings, a lighting retrofit was implemented, and lighting control, including sensors, were installed to turn lights on/off in less occupied areas. These retrofits improved overall lighting levels while decreasing energy and operational costs.
Because of these renovations, The City of Brooklyn now enjoys both significant energy savings and operational expense savings.
