Over the past 55+ years, The Brewer-Garrett Company has emerged as a leader in building mechanical systems. From energy services to HVAC services, design/build, integrated facility services and commissioning, we’ve built a strong business based on quick response, quality work and total customer satisfaction. Our dedicated staff and loyal customers have contributed to our success. We look back on our history with pride.

Historical Timeline of Events

1959 – Brewer-Garrett earns $300,000 in the first year of operation

  • January – The Brewer-Garrett Company is incorporated by Bill Brewer, Bill Garrett and Julius Juhasz
  • February – Operations commence to bring design/build ideas and solutions to the mechanical contracting marketplace
  • The company opens their headquarters on Hamlet Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio
  • Brewer-Garrett brings in revenues of $300,000 in the first year of business

1960s – Phenomenal growth

  • 1960 – The Brewer-Garrett Company experiences phenomenal growth, almost doubling their revenue to $591,000
  • 1962 – Company moves to 12,000 sq ft. facility on Scranton Road
  • 1963 – Bill Brewer is awarded the largest contract in the company's history with Niagara Power in the state of New York 

1970s – Brewer-Garrett reaches the million dollar mark

  • 1970 – The company financial statements disclose revenue of $1,409,000
  • 1977 – Bill Brewer retires; David Laska is promoted to President and is offered an ownership position

1980s – New acquisitions

  • 1980 – The Brewer-Garrett Company purchases a franchise from the LINC Corporation
  • 1980 – Brewer-Garrett purchases its first computer
  • 1980 – The company earns revenues of just over $4,000,000
  • 1982 - Lou Joseph is hired as a Service Sales Representative
  • 1983 - Julius Juhasz, one of the founders, retires and sets off to see America with his wife
  • 1987 – In recognition of his commitment to quality through education, the sheet metal local opens the Julius Juhasz Training Center in downtown Cleveland dedicated in honor of one of our founders
  • 1987 – Bill Garrett retires to enjoy life with his wife Nan

1990s - A decade of recognition

  • 1990 – The Brewer-Garrett Company breaks the $10,000,000 mark
  • 1991 - Lou Joseph is promoted to President of Brewer-Garrett
  • 1991 – New 23,000 sq ft. facility at 6800 Eastland Road, Middleburg Heights opens
  • 1992 – First single job in excess of one million dollars awarded by Master Builders
  • 1994 - David Laska retires
  • 1994 – Energy Services division starts
  • 1996 – An office addition of 8,000 sq ft. is completed in June
  • 1996 – Enterprise Award for Best Business Practices sponsored by Arthur Andersen
  • 1997– Office in Akron is opened
  • 1997 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded a contract with the Playhouse Square Foundation to renovate the historic Allen Theater
  • 1997– Brewer-Garrett is only contractor of the top 90 companies in a 9 county area to win Cleveland Business Magazine 9/90 Award
  • 1998 – Website www.brewer-garrett.com is established
  • 1998 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded a contract with Cuyahoga Community College, beginning a long and mutually beneficial relationship that continues today
  • 1998 – Brewer-Garrett is named “Contractor of the Year” by Service Development Corp
  • 1999 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded a contract with Cuyahoga County, establishing a trusted working relationship that continues today
  • 1999 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded service contracts with Beachwood Mall and Eveready Battery
  • 1999 – Lou Joseph and Kelly Tisdale appear on a radio show to discuss the ways Brewer-Garrett can help companies deal with upcoming electricity deregulation issues
  • 1999 – Cleveland Business Magazine 9/90 Award
  • 1999 – Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Business Services category 

2000s - New age, new attitude, new world

  • 2000 – The Brewer-Garrett Company forms an alliance with 4 other leading mechanical contractors throughout the U.S. to share training and management practice resources called SECorps
  • 2000 – Northeast Ohio Success Award and Telly Award (shared with Tarbert Television) for the production of the 40th Anniversary Video
  • 2000 – Governor’s Award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency for the City of Lakewood, Winterhurst Ice Rink project
  • 2000 - Lou Joseph wins the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Cleveland Chapter Industry Appreciation Award
  • 2000 – David Laska, former President of Brewer-Garrett, dies in September.
  • 2000 – The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded contracts with Lutheran Hospital and Embassy Suites
  • 2000 – The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded service contracts with Firestone and Cablevision
  • 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005 – Cleveland Business Magazine 9/90 Award
  • 2001 - The Brewer-Garrett Company wins the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency for the Cuyahoga County Energy Conservation Program
  • 2001 – The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded a contract with Elyria Memorial Hospital and the Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine
  • 2002 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded a contract with the FBI Baltimore offices
  • 2002 - Constructech Magazine Vision Award for best use of technology in the HVAC industry
  • 2002 – The Mechanical Contractors' Association of American honors Brewer-Garrett as a finalist for the 'E. Robert Kent Innovation Award' for the use of bar-code technology in service management and preventive maintenance
  • 2002 – Jeff Zellers wins the NAWIC Cleveland Chapter Industry Appreciation Award
  • 2003 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded contracts with Playhouse Square and Berea City School District
  • 2003 – Bill Garrett died on June 10th
  • 2003 – Governor’s Award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency for the Cuyahoga Community College House Bill 7 Energy Conservation Program
  • 2003 – Kelly Tisdale wins the NAWIC Cleveland Chapter Industry Appreciation Award
  • 2004 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded contracts with Timken, Swagelok, and the Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority
  • 2004 – 2 Governor’s Awards for Excellence in Energy Efficiency for the Cuyahoga Community College Corporate College West Energy Conservation Program and the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine Energy Conservation Program
  • 2005 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded a service contract with Timken
  • 2005 – Brewer-Garrett is featured on the cover of Smart Business Magazine for hiring the best in the business and providing an environment for success
  • 2005 – Shaker Computer & Management Services Vision Award
  • 2006 - The Brewer-Garrett Company initiates a new line of business in Commissioning, and is awarded contracts for Tecumseh Schools and Cuyahoga County Juvenile Justice Center
  • 2007 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded contracts with the City of Brooklyn, Cleveland State University, Erieview Tower & Galleria, Heinz, Perdue Farms and numerous local school Districts, such as Berea, Medina and Euclid City Schools
  • 2007 – The Brewer-Garrett Company is named one of 8 contractors in the State of Ohio qualified to perform commissioning services
  • 2007 – Brewer-Garrett wins the Leading Edge Award
  • 2008 - The Brewer-Garrett Company initiates a new line of work in our Service Division – Integrated Facilities Services, with a new contract
  • 2008 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded a new comprehensive contract for Cleveland State University’s Campus wide Energy Conservation Program
  • 2009 - Brewer-Garrett achieves the Mechanical Services Contractors of America MCSA STAR Qualified Contractor designation for successfully exhibiting the highest standards of industry excellence
  • 2009 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is recognized with Cleveland State University as the recipient of the Crain’s Emerald Award, honoring outstanding Northeast Ohio companies, organizations and leaders who have successfully implemented and benefited from strategic sustainable programs to have a positive impact on the triple bottom line: Profits, People, Planet
  • 2009 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded contracts with Heinz Corporation, and numerous local school Districts, such as Cardinal, Bath, Bloomfield-Mespo, Champion, Pymatuning and Eastwood

2010s – Continuing the commitment to customer service

  • 2010 - The NEO Success Award (formally known as the 9/90 award) was awarded to Brewer-Garrett. NEO Success Award winners demonstrate the region’s determination to expand and revitalize our economic status. Brewer-Garrett has won this award 13 times.
  • 2010 - The Brewer-Garrett Company was honored as one of the Leading EDGE Companies in 2010 for the 4th year in a row. The Entrepreneurs EDGE (EDGE) which stands for Economic Development through Growth and Entrepreneurship.
  • 2010 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded contracts for the Kent State University Stark Campus, PVS Chemical, City of Collinsville, City of Kent, Cuyahoga County-Phase II, and numerous local school Districts, such as Danbury, Northwest City, Field, Galion, Howland, and Conneaut
  • 2011 - The Brewer-Garrett Company was honored as one of the Leading EDGE Companies in 2011 for the 5th year in a row.
  • 2011 - The Brewer-Garrett Company was the recipient of the 2011 World Class Customer Service Award as testimony to our firm commitment to delivering top-notch customer service
  • 2011 - The Brewer-Garrett Company is awarded contracts with Kent State University for Five Satellite Campuses and the Residence Halls at the Main Campus, continuing the excellent partnership established with this customer
  • 2012 - A new logo brought a new look to The Brewer-Garrett Company and the Brewer-Garrett and "BG" names began to take hold around the company
  • 2012 - A state-of-the-art renovation and expansion began as the company kept growing and needed to accommodate more employees
